  6.                   Important note to users of rKey 1.0 to 1.3 :
  7.

  9. Version 1.5 of rKey is NOT compatable with versions prior to 1.4!  There are
  10. several reasons for this (see "The future of rKey" below).  If you have an
  11. application that is currently using rKey 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, you have to
  12. decide among one of the following courses of action :
  13.  
  14.   (1) Keep using the version that you have now.  This is the ONLY way that
  15.       your existing registration keys will remain valid.  Unfortunately,
  16.       this will not allow you to take advantage of any of the enhancements
  17.       available in RkPlus, or the reduction in memory usage with rKey 1.5.
  18.  
  19.   (2) Upgrade to rKey 1.5.  This is fairly simple.  You will have to remove
  20.       registration levels and dates, and regenerate keys, but you should only
  21.       have to make slight code modifications.  In addition, your program
  22.       should become somewhat smaller.  If you have registered any version of
  23.       rKey ($10 or more), you are already registered for rKey 1.5.

  25.   (3) Upgrade to RkPlus.  This is a bit more involved, but carries with
  26.       it many advantages.  If you have already registered any version of
  27.       rKey ($10 or more), you can register RkPlus AND rKey for $10.  If you
  28.       have not yet registered rKey, you can register both for $20.

  30. RkPlus is, by far, the most powerful of the two (rKey and RkPlus), however it
  31. is also over twice as large.  The decision on which unit to use must,
  32. ultimately, lie with you, the programmer.  If you aren't sure which unit you
  33. should use, or have any trouble converting (to rKey 1.5 or RkPlus) feel
  34. free to contact me via any of the methods listed in RKPLUS.DOC.

  40.                                The future of rKey

  43. Since completing the RkPlus Enhanced Registration Key Unit, I've been unsure
  44. what to do with the old, original rKey.  Since RkPlus will do everything that
  45. rKey does (and more), there doesn't seem to be a lot of use for rKey. However,
  46. I went back in and trimmed it down wherever possible, to make a very small (and
  47. simple) registration key unit.  I removed registration levels and the
  48. registration date and the TPU is now under 8K.  rKey is now user registration
  49. at its most simple.  It will take a name and encrypt it into a 12 digit
  50. hexadecimal key and create a .KEY file containing the information. If you need
  51. registration levels (or any of the new enhanced features of RkPlus) I suggest
  52. that you obtain a copy of RkPlus (available as RKPLUS21.ZIP), which contains
  53. everything you need to handle multiple encryption strings, registration levels,
  54. limited use demo keys, etc.

  56. I will continue to support rKey and, possibly, release new versions of it (in
  57. its new, smaller incarnation), but the vast majority of my development time
  58. will be spent on RkPlus.
